This establishment has been around since the 1930´s and it still holds the name of its first owners. Over the years it has been owned by 3 different people but the last person, “Sr. António Coelho” is the person that has turned it into what it is today. Since he passed away, his daughter “Renata” is doing a great job in maintaining her father’s traditions, which go back 30 years, she has been helping out here since she was 14.

This place is structured around the origins of its products and the long lasting relationships with the people that supply them with these ingredients. The veal is exclusively supplied from “Arouca” and “Renata” makes sure they are regional free range suppliers. So if you prefer meat go for the “Vitela Arouquesa”, there are several ways they prepare it. In terms of fish the house speciality is the “Filtes de Polvo” octopus fillets as well as the seasonal fish that is displayed as you enter the restaurant, supplied by local fisherman.

If you are in “Ribeira” this is one of my favourite places to eat that actually has some tradition and love behind it rather than the usual tourist traps that compose most of this area. If it’s nice weather there are several tables outside, and if you’re lucky, with a view of the river. Rumour says that the whole community admired and liked “Sr. Coelho´s” honesty and you can definitely taste this in the honest food you eat here.
