Bad Habits (translated) looks like one of Great Gatsby’s penthouse apartments. The old Portuguese aristocrat feel gives it a surprisingly interesting old school 1930’s charm.

The building was meant to be and still is the garage for the neighbouring theatre. On the 4th floor, it used to house lawyers, hairdressers, barbers and tailors. It was an elite automobile club meant for powerful aristocrats; only the upper class had access to these facilities. Today it is a Bar, Restaurant, Cinema, Concert Venue and Exhibition Space.

It is also reasonably priced; opt for a cocktail, beer or glass of wine. Recently they have also opened a restaurant which serves mainly Italian cuisine; the pizzas are not bad.

This is a place you go after dinner or in case there is a particular event, like a concert. The view is incredible, the atmosphere is relaxed and there is always something going on. It started off as an elitist automobile club for the rich and has turned into one of the best hipster stages in Porto. The proximity to the art faculty of the University, offers the exhibition room a rotational demonstration of the new nose-ringed artistic talent that is spawning in Porto, as well as regular Short-film viewings, also from local bearded directors. Even though the place is called Bad Habits, I enjoy the fact that it has become one of my good habits to often go there and time-travel back to the 1930’s.
