This Typical “Tasca” opened in 1938, but “Chico & Helena”, have been running it for 35 years. Before they ventured into this business, she worked in a bakery and he was a taxi driver. They have been married for the last 40 years and even working together for the last 30 they are still in love with each other, serving their customers the best products they can offer.

The choice is impressive, everything traditional, but they specialise in cured meats and cheese. The “Presunto” salt cured ham is divine as well as the “Salpicão” smoked loin, their mountain sheep cheese is also exceptional; you can ask for a sandwich, or on the plate. Apart from this they also make cod fish cakes, blood soup, pig ear salad, stomach, deep fried tripe as well as seafood (weekends), oven roasted wild-bore (Wednesdays) and snails (Apr–Sep). The wine they serve is also very good, matured red and white as well as “Vinho Verde” young wine, red, white and rosé, the last being my favourite, named “Espadal”, only available by the bottle.

This traditional food temple is a must, “Chico” and “Helena” truly love what they are doing and you can taste their dedication in the products they offer. The effort, work, affection and love for each other is the basis that then is transposed in their food, and I personally come here to worship this temple every chance I get, I can even dare to say it is the main religion that I worship.
