Cinema Trindade

Cinema Trindade

This historical Cinema first opened in the 1940’s and has now been rehabilitated by Cristina Mota and Américo Santos, belonging to “Nitrato Films”. It reopened on Feb 2017 and ever since has been a temple for Independent Cinema.

The two cinema rooms with a classic old-school look are open 7 days a week with 8-10 sessions daily and with 10 movies being exhibited at any one time.  No food is allowed inside, just water and foreign films only have subtitles in Portuguese. Ticket prices range from 4.5 to 8.00 depending if you have a loyalty card called “Tri-pas” it costs 10 initially but includes one movie in this price and offers a 25% discount on your next movie purchases in various independent cinemas in the city. Cinema Trindade is located in the historical centre of the bustling city centre so going for a drink and talking about the movie afterwards is a decompression that comes naturally.

Cristina and Américo have done a great job to rehabilitate this cinema that was closed for more than 17 years. Their choice to not include any blockbuster movies comes as a breath of fresh air in alterative to the life-less shopping mall atmosphere that cinemas have turned into over the years. They both curate the movies that are being exhibited and you can almost always trust their taste. If you feel like a more relaxed evening in a cinema from the 40’s this is your place.
