Solar Moinho de Vento

Solar Moinho de Vento

The windmill has been in existence for more than 100 years. It has changed ownership 3 times and the current has gracefully kept the tradition going for the last 15 years. As you walk in you can see the heart of the restaurant, the kitchen is entirely open. Three to four ladies populate this area, always dressed in white and surrounded by traditional metal pots.

There is a large selection of specialities on a daily rotation. My favourites include: “Cozido” Boiled selection of meats and vegetables; “Pataniscas” cod fish cakes;“Arroz de Cabidela” chicken blood rice; “Coelho” roasted rabbit; “Arroz de Costelinhas” pork-rib rice; “Filetes de Polvo” battered and deep fried Octopus; “Bacalhau a Moinho” fried codfish with onion; “Arroz de Bacalhau” Codfish rice with clams and coriander; “Língua Estufada” stewed cow tongue; The desserts change daily, I’m always persuaded by the“leite crème” Portuguese Crème brûlée.

I am proud that this landmark has maintained its history. Once I taste the food, I am taken back to my childhood; I even expect to see my grandmother in the kitchen, as these are the classic dishes she used to cook on special occasions. As the name of the restaurant suggests, “Moinho de Vento” windmill, it will blow you away. You will soon become more Portuguese and start talking about your next meal, while eating your current one.
